Kakphekwa Tangnam

Kakphekwa Tangnam is the main festival of the Kirat People. It falls on the 1st of the Nepali month, Magh or January 15. It is also called by various names like Makar Sankranti, Maghi, Maghe Sankranti, etc. The Kirat people mark this day as the end of winter and the beginning of warmer days, spring, and harvest season. On this day, people take holy baths in the rivers and pray to the five elements of nature, mainly the Sun, as a symbol of power, divinity, and wisdom. After the Sewa Khichdi, sesame laddu, potatoes, yam, sweet potatoes, roti, vegetable, etc., are prepared and eaten.
